Two counterintuitive traps
Believing China is 110V — the real trap runs the other way
China is 220V. US and Canadian travelers who pack only a plug adapter for a 120V-only hair dryer or curling iron will damage it — that's the device that needs a voltage converter, while dual-voltage chargers need none.
Instead: Check the label: 100–240V → adapter only. 120V only → add a voltage converter.
Voltage is fine, but the frequency still bites motor tools
China's grid is 50Hz. A motorized styling tool built for 60Hz (North America, Japan, South Korea) runs at about 83% speed, which worsens cooling — overheating and burnout have been reported even for the Dyson Airwrap. Devices built for 50Hz are unaffected.
Instead: Bring dual-voltage models only, and avoid long continuous use as a precaution.
