Flight from your city — KUL is the dense map. Penang, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu are a separate page. Do not price an Ipoh “direct”.

Pay and data — Bind the card to Alipay at home. Install eSIM on home Wi-Fi. WhatsApp/Google may still need a VPN you installed before departure.

Food if you need halal — Learn 清真. Beijing: Niujie from Caishikou, plus Donglaishun at Beijing APM if you want a named address.

How do I plan a China trip from Malaysia?

Visa-free first, then the flight from your actual city (KL is not Penang), then Alipay and WeChat Pay card bind at home, then eSIM installed on home Wi-Fi, then 清真 for meals.

How long can I stay?

30 days per visit on an ordinary Malaysian passport, and 90 days inside any rolling 180-day window. Work and study are not this path.

Should I fly into Guangzhou or Beijing?

Guangzhou is the shortest KUL hop (~4h 20m) and a common first city for Malaysian food habits. Beijing and Shanghai need more walking days. Pick the city that matches the flight you can actually buy.

What about Chinese New Year?

Malaysia’s public CNY break is typically two days. Mainland Spring Festival 2026 is 15–23 February. Book China-side trains and hotels for that full window, not for a two-day Malaysian holiday.
