Chengdu — Airport to city

Chengdu has two airports — Shuangliu (CTU) and Tianfu (TFU). Check the airport code on your ticket, then use the tabs below for that airport's exact routes, fares and signs.

International flights moved to Tianfu (TFU) in 2023

Since 26 March 2023, all international flights operate from Chengdu Tianfu (TFU), not Shuangliu. CTU today serves mostly domestic routes across T1 and T2 — if you're flying internationally, you almost certainly land at TFU instead. Check the airport code (CTU vs TFU) on your boarding pass.

Sichuan Airlines Hong Kong/Taiwan routes return to CTU T1 from 31 July 2026

From 31 July 2026, Sichuan Airlines moves its Hong Kong and Taiwan routes back to CTU Terminal 1. Macau is not part of this particular change — Macau routes are flown by Air Macau. Confirm your terminal with your airline before heading to the airport; do not assume other airlines have followed.

Metro Line 19 also reaches Shuangliu, but for airport-to-airport travel

Since 28 November 2023, Metro Line 19 also serves Shuangliu at 双流机场2航站楼东站 (Terminal 2 only). Its main use is a fast link to Tianfu (TFU) — a 双机场直达车 (dual-airport express) covers the two airports in about 30 minutes — plus a second metro line into T2. Line 19 does not run directly to downtown 成都南站 or 天府广场 without further transfers, so for a direct ride into central Chengdu, use Line 10 instead.

Ride-hailing (DiDi / Amap)

Where & how to board

  • Set your destination in DiDi before you walk out — DiDi has an English app that works with a foreign card, so it’s the ride-hailing option most usable for visitors. Locals also use 高德地图 / Amap, but the domestic listing is Chinese-first; install the separate AMap Global edition for English.
  • Follow 网约车 / Ride-hailing signs from the arrivals hall to the designated pickup bay — the exact bay wasn't confirmed on an official page for either terminal, so match the app's instructions once you're outside.
  • Match the car plate to the app before you get in.

TFU is Chengdu's main international gateway

Chengdu Tianfu International Airport opened in 2021 and, since international flights moved here on 26 March 2023, handles nearly all of Chengdu's international traffic. It's about 51km southeast of downtown — plan more travel time than you would from Shuangliu (CTU).

A third terminal and runway are due in October 2026

TFU's T3 and a third runway are scheduled to open 28 October 2026. Until then, all arrivals use T1 and T2 — this page describes today's T1/T2 setup and will be updated once T3 opens.

  • Note: Line 19 also passes through TFU, but it connects toward Shuangliu (CTU) and the south — it is not the express route into downtown, so don't board it by mistake.

  • An alternative is the intercity high-speed rail from the airport to 成都东站 (Chengdu East Railway Station), about 30 minutes for around ¥30 in second class — but only about 5 trains run per day, so check the timetable before planning around it (single source — confirm at the station).

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Check the airport code on your ticket. Tianfu (TFU) has handled nearly all international flights since 26 March 2023; Shuangliu (CTU) now serves mostly domestic routes. One exception: from 31 July 2026, Sichuan Airlines moves its Hong Kong and Taiwan routes back to CTU Terminal 1. Macau isn't part of this particular change (it's flown by Air Macau). Confirm your terminal with the airline; do not assume other carriers have followed.

Board Metro Line 10 at 双流机场1/2航站楼站, ride to 太平园, then change onto Line 3 for 春熙路 (Chunxi Road) — fares run about ¥2–8. An official taxi to 春熙路 (19.5 km) runs roughly ¥50–90 on the meter. Didi and an airport bus (¥15 day / ¥25 night, to 春熙路 or 天府机场) are also available.

Board Metro Line 18 (express) at 天府机场1号2号航站楼站 to 成都南站 (¥10, about 33–35 minutes), then change onto Line 1 for 天府广场 (¥11 total, roughly 60–90 minutes door-to-door). An official taxi to 天府广场 (67 km) runs about ¥150–200 plus tolls. Didi and an airport bus (¥15 day / ¥25 night) are also available.

Shuangliu (CTU) is closer — about 19.5 km to 春熙路 by taxi. Tianfu (TFU) is roughly 51 km southeast of downtown (about 67 km to 天府广场 by road), so budget more travel time and a higher taxi fare from TFU.

A single source reports about ¥50–90 from CTU to 春熙路 (19.5 km), and about ¥150–200 plus expressway tolls paid by the passenger from TFU to 天府广场 (67 km). Both are metered — watch the meter rather than expecting a fixed price.

Tianfu (TFU) — it has handled nearly all international traffic since 26 March 2023. The one exception is Sichuan Airlines' Hong Kong and Taiwan routes, which move back to Shuangliu (CTU) Terminal 1 from 31 July 2026. Macau isn't part of this particular change (it's flown by Air Macau). Confirm the terminal on your ticket.

How we verify airport routes

  • We prefer airport, metro, rail, and government operator pages for route, ticketing, terminal, and schedule claims.
  • If an exact fare, pickup bay, or last-train time is not confirmed on an operator page, we tell travelers to check it instead of publishing a number.
  • Last-updated dates mark when source links and page claims were reviewed.
