携程旅行

Trip.com (携程国际版) is the English‑friendly booking platform for Chinese trains, flights, and hotels. Book high‑speed rail with your passport, pay with an international card, and collect tickets or board digitally — all without a Chinese phone number.

Before you install — hard prerequisites

Trip.com is the English booking app you open before you land: lock in a China hotel, a domestic flight and a train seat on one passport login, with 24/7 English help. It is the fallback that absorbs the 12306 real-name paperwork when that check refuses to clear.

Before you start

  • Passport valid on the travel day; name must match the booking exactly
  • A foreign payment method — card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay
  • Email and phone to open the account
  • Know the 15-day train window before you searchoptional
A

Passport — what the app checks

The name you type must match the machine-readable zone of your passport character for character, and the passport must be valid on the day you travel. Unlike 12306, there is no real-name verification gate before you can book — but the name still has to match at the gate.

B

Payment — what works

A foreign card clears: Visa, Mastercard, Amex, JCB, plus PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Keep a second method ready; traveler reports of a refused card are uncommon but not zero.

C

Account and network

Open the account with email and phone; you can browse and book without a passport on file. The app and www.trip.com work inside mainland China without a VPN.

D

Train vs 12306 — the 15-day window

Book trains here only if you want to skip the 12306 identity check; 12306 is cheaper with no agency fee. Mainland and Hong Kong high-speed trains sell within 15 days of departure — the same window as the official channel — so do not search earlier. Hotels and flights can be booked from abroad at any time.

Correct download entry

  • iOS: App Store → search Trip.com → the listing published by Trip.com Travel Singapore Pte. Ltd. (id 681752345).
  • Android: Google Play → package ctrip.english.
  • Web alternative: the whole flow also runs on www.trip.com, no install needed.
  • Region availability: the international app is reachable from foreign storefronts and accepts foreign cards.
  • Easy-to-mistake version: the Chinese Ctrip app — same group, Chinese interface, aimed at Chinese customers. Use Trip.com for English and foreign cards.

Pre-arrival preparation

  • A passport valid on the travel day; the name must match the booking exactly, character for character.
  • A payment method that works from home: Visa, Mastercard, Amex, JCB, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
  • Decide train vs 12306: book trains here only if you want to skip the identity check; 12306 is cheaper with no agency fee.
  • The 15-day sales window: mainland and Hong Kong high-speed trains sell within 15 days of departure, the same as the official channel.
  • Tipbook hotels and flights here freely; for trains, only the 15-day window applies, so do not search earlier.

First setup after arrival

Before you fly — checklist

  1. Install Trip.com before you fly
  2. Create the account with email and phone
  3. Attach a foreign card or wallet
  4. Note train tickets open 15 days before departure
  5. Type the passport name exactly as printed
1Install the app

iOS from the App Store, Android from Google Play (package ctrip.english).

2Create the account

email and phone; you can browse and book without a passport on file.

3Add a payment method

card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

4

No identity review to wait for — unlike 12306, there is no real-name verification gate before you can book.

Actual usage flow

By travel stage (all steps bound to scenarios):

1. Pick the product → hotels and flights book any time; trains only inside the 15-day window.

2. Search → enter city or hotel name and dates; trains show live seat inventory.

3. Enter the passenger → the passport name exactly as printed; foreign passports are accepted.

4. Pay → card, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Trip Coins or a gift card.

5. Wait for issuance → daytime orders (GMT+8 05:00–23:30) issue within 30 minutes; orders placed 23:30–05:00 issue before 05:30 the next day.

6. Travel on the passport → no paper ticket; the ID used to book is the ticket at the gate.

7. Hong Kong West Kowloon → passport holders use the staff-assisted counters; arrive 60–90 minutes early.

8. Change or cancel → one rebooking, online 08:00–22:00 GMT+8; refunds follow the tiered fees.

Where foreign tourists commonly get stuck

Almost nothing goes wrong at the gate. It goes wrong at the name field, the fee line, and the Hong Kong counter.

  • The passport name is typed slightly wrong, and the booking is rejected or the gate will not read it.
  • The non-refundable booking fee is a surprise, and its amount is unclear — traveler reports conflict.
  • Travelers arrive at Hong Kong West Kowloon without enough time for the staff-assisted counter.
  • A refund filed between 23:00 and 08:00 GMT+8 fails silently and is never returned.
  • Trains are searched more than 15 days out and look sold out when they have simply not gone on sale.

Reference points by home country

  • US / Canadaclosest to booking hotels on Booking.com and flights on Expedia, plus a resold Amtrak-style train seat — one login, one home card, 24/7 English help.
  • UK / Irelandlike Trainline for the train leg, but the seat is resold with a fee and the hotels and flights sit in the same app.
  • Australia / New Zealandlike running Booking.com and an airline site through one passport login, with trains added as a resold product.

Support and fallback

  • Official support24/7 in-app help with English agents, plus a free in-app call.
  • Backup channel12306 for trains when its verification works; Trip.com when it does not, because it skips the real-name wait.
  • Call-first scenariosa refund that never returned, a duplicate charge, or an overnight refund that failed.
